Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need experience in yoga/meditation/writing to attend a retreat or online class?
Not at all! Beginners are very welcome. All our classes are set up for people of all experience levels and abilities. Everything is optional and modifiable.
Do you cover/arrange transportation?
No - we are a small organization and we do not have the funding to cover transportation. The Veteran arranges and pays for their own transportation, but once they arrive at the location - accommodation, three meals a day, and all activities are covered by our amazing donors. If you are chosen for a retreat, a deposit of $100 will be required to hold your space. This deposit will be fully refunded immediately after the retreat. No-shows or cancellations within 45 days of the retreat will forfeit this deposit. (Deposit can be waived according to means.)
Who is eligible to attend retreats?
We don’t believe in having requirements for deployments, combat experience, or a certain diagnosis. If you are a past or present military service member and are ready to show up with an open mind and heart to do some challenging work to improve your life — you might be a great fit for MFers.
Who attends retreats? Are retreats separated by gender?
Retreats are co-ed. If diversity makes you uncomfortable, this is not going to be the place for you. We welcome male and female service members from any era. We are inclusive and embrace diversity. We welcome LGBTQ+ service members. We welcome people of all genders, races, religions, and backgrounds. We welcome Veterans of all ability levels. We have between 12 - 18 veterans per retreat, depending on the location.
